Francesco Veri

Francesco Veri is a Senior Researcher at the Centre for Democracy Studies at the University of Zurich, a Senior Researcher at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Geneva, and an Associate at the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance at the University of Canberra.

🧠 Expertise: Francesco’s work bridges political behaviour, democratic participation, and deliberative democracy—with a growing focus on the intersection of AI and democratic governance. He combines deep knowledge of representative and direct democratic systems with methodological innovation, including discourse mapping, cultural consensus theory, and computational approaches to reasoning.

🚀 AI & Democracy: Francesco is Principal Investigator of the SNSF-funded project Triage Against the Machine,  exploring whether AI can reason deliberatively. He also leads work on the EU Horizon project AI4Deliberation, advancing institutionalised, multimodal, gamified mass deliberation through AI tools.

📊 Major Contribution: Co-author with Simon Niemeyer of the Deliberative Reason Index (DRI)—the sole benchmark for deliberative reasoning—published in the American Political Science Review.
